Lynn Forbes, the mother of the late rapper Kiernan Forbes, better known as AKA, said that she’s struggling to cope with the reality that her son is gone.
The rapper was brutally killed in February, outside Wish Restaurant on Durban’s Florida Road, alongside his former manager and long-time friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.
Although two months have passed since his funeral, Lynn said that she finds it hard to believe that so much time has gone by without him.
‘Proud of the man you’re becoming’
In an emotional display on Instagram, Lynn Forbes opened up to her followers and shared her anguish with the world as she has been doing since news of her son’s murder first went public.
She uploaded a screenshot of one of her last WhatsApp exchanges with AKA, dated 31 January 2023, and poured her heart out in the caption.
“Today is really difficult. The hardest part is that you have gone forever quiet on my phone. I miss your texts and calls so much,” she wrote.
The post was accompanied by a broken heart emoji, conveying the depth of her sorrow.
Penning a heartbreak post to her late son
Ever since the legendary rapper AKA was buried, Lynn has been open about the challenges she’s facing in accepting his passing.
In February, only a few weeks after her son’s funeral, Lynn took to Instagram and shared her first public statement about the heartbreaking ordeal.
She expressed her profound sadness and the struggles she’s encountering as she tries to come to terms with the reality of AKA’s death.

At the time, she wrote a caption for her post: “Oh my heart. The last two weeks have been surreal, more specifically the mornings. Waking up every morning, being reminded that this nightmare will never end, is the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. My heart is shattered into millions of pieces. I love you Kiernan”.
Sharing the pain with loved ones
She also recently shared a heartwarming moment with her followers after enjoying a family outing with her loved ones.
The social media post featured several photos of her with her loved ones, including Nadia Nakai, DJ Zinhle, AKA’s father Tony Forbes, his grandmother, and his daughter Kairo.

Lynn’s post conveyed a sense of happiness and hope despite the pain of losing AKA, as she and her family continue to navigate their grief.
Along with the heartwarming images, she included a caption that read: “My mother never taught me how to love, she showed me”.
