The father of Katlego Bereng Mpholo – the man whose body was placed in Thabo Bester’s Magaung prison cell – has expressed his desire to write a book about the unbelievable ordeal.
And South Africans are giving the idea the green light. In fact, many authors are jumping at the chance to write Batho Mpholo’s solemn story.

‘MY LIFE HAS BEEN FULL OF GAPS’
In a tweet, Katlegeo Bereng’s father posted: “I need someone to help me write a book. The t**le of it will be ‘The Gap’. My life has been full of gaps”.
Batho’s tweet quickly went viral, with dozens of published authors offering their help.

In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, Batho revealed that he had only recently begun a relationship with Katlego.
He said: “I found Katlego Bereng in 2018. I never married his mother, we lost touch when she was two months pregnant.”
THABO BESTER ‘BODY’ IDENTIFIED
Speaking to eNCA Batho claimed he had filled in a missing persons docket in April 2022 after being unable to contact Katlego Bereng, who resided in Bloemfontein.
But he heard nothing until last week when police contacted the family about doing a DNA test on a body that had been found. After two DNA tests, police confirmed that a burnt body found at the Mangaung Correctional Centre matched that of Katlego.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the body had been positively identified and the family notified.
Mathe told News24: “As difficult as this news is, the SAPS is pleased to bring closure to the family.”
However, Batho accuses police of withholding information until the eleventh hour.

He said: “They [police] said my son collapsed in town and had been taken to the hospital. When he got there, they discovered that he did not have enough blood. [After he died], they took him to the mortuary”.
He added: “How the body left the mortuary….we don’t know”.
‘I NEED THE TRUTH’
However, Batho was adamant that he did not believe an official report.
He continued: “They are giving us the perception that Katlego has been roaming the streets. I don’t believe; there is more to it”.

Batho also disputed claims that Katlego knew Thabo Bester or Nandipha Magudumana.
He said: “How did Thabo Bester get hold of my son’s body? The family visited several mortuaries in Bloemfontein to look for him after reporting him missing.
“There was no sign of him…so why now? I need more information…I need the truth”.
Batho Bereng is hoping to speak to the police to get closure.
