Meek Mill has taken a leaf out of 2Pac‘s book for his latest plea — demanding action from the powers that be, to prioritize education. On Friday (June 30), the Philly rapper took to Twitter where he questioned the government’s motives in funding wars, while educational efforts take a back seat.
“Why are we having a problem with money for education but giving money away for war??” he began, before referencing what he believes to be a long-running issue. “I’ve been seeing this narrative on the news since a child I’ll never understand it!”
His words and sentiments echo those of 2Pac, who on his 1993 classic ‘Keep Ya Head Up’ famously raps: “You know, it’s funny when it rains it pours/ They got money for wars, but can’t feed the poor.”

Meek’s tweet struck a chord with many fans who chimed in with their belief that money is the root of all evil — including the decline in American students’ knowledge and skills. “In a nutshell… The ROI on war is exponentially higher than it is on education,” wrote one user.
“Governments making tons of money off this war you think they really care about kids’ education in the United States when they are making billions of dollars in this war they knew that wasn’t going to pass. They were just looking to get the younger generations to vote,” commented another.
According to experts, public schools alone are losing funding at a rapid rate. Over the last decade, a number of states, including Michigan and New Hampshire, saw a decline in enrollment primarily due to declining birth rates. While others, like Texas, saw numbers increase because of immigration.
Although, elementary and secondary school enrollment increased by three percent, from 49.5 million to 50.8 million students from 2010 to 2019. The world would soon experience a global pandemic, which supercharged a mass exiting from public schools — reversed the progress made.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics public schools lost more than a million students from fall 2019 to fall 2020, Enrollment fell from 50.8 million to 49.4 million. In music news or the lack thereof, Meek Mill — who hasn’t dropped an album since 2021 — has offered an explanation for his absence.
Last weekend, the Philly native shared a screenshot of a text message from an unknown sender that read as follows: “Man fuk them views numbers & critics & comments & opinions, drop it.”
Meek Mill captioned the image: “If I ain’t drop music it’s a reason I’m handling the business … we not shinning shoes to look the famous and feel the biggest for a label … and I’m not selling mys*** like it’s mid… the game watered down y’all overhyped everything now it’s a drought.”
He then tweeted an update on what he’s got cooking in the kitchen. “I’m giving up 4 albums chilllllllll,” the 36-year-old MC wrote. “Switchie flow…. Ima cracks the code seriously and says it b4 I do it lol.”
