Where is former Kaizer Chiefs player Lucky Khune now?

Over 10 years ago, Kaizer Chiefs was home to not one but two Khune footballers. While many think of Itumeleng Khune when the surname is mention, a great number of ardent football supporters will also tell you about Lucky Khune.

LUCKY KHUNE’S STINT AT KAIZER CHIEFS

The younger brother of long-serving Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune made his debut for the Glamour Boys against defunct club Mpumalanga Black Aces in February 2010.

The soccer player, who was 21 years old at the time, was nicknamed after Brazilian star Ricardo Kaka because he played as an attacking midfielder.

Lucky was promoted to join his older brother in the first team at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season.

However, his time as a Soweto giants striker was short-lived. Amakhosi faithfuls will remember him for scoring a goal that sank the club’s arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the 2010 Telkom Charity Cup. Chiefs went on to win that match on penalties.

After leaving the Glamour Boys, Lucky had a stint at defunct Cape Town side, Vasco Da Gama. In 2014, he joining Chippa United, before joining ABC Motsepe League side Baberwa.

WHERE IS THE FOOTBALLER NOW?

Speaking to SowetanLIVE in 2019, Lucky said that he wants to be remembered for his contribution in football and not as Itumeleng Khune’s younger brother.

“When I retire, I want to be remembered for my own contributions not that I was just Itu’s [Itumeleng] younger brother. I am positive that I can still offer a lot in football,” said Lucky.

In the same year, he was said to have started a scrapyard and transportation business. He was also touted for an Uzbekistan move in 2020, however, the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt those plans.

While it is not clear which team he is now signed to, Lucky was spotted playing for Gomora United during the Tsalalang Kasi to Kasi Football Games in July last year.

The 33-year-old is also a deejay, according to his Instagram.
